Tony Evers sent a letter Thursday raising concerns about “severe delays” in the U.S. mail system threatening the delivery of absentee ballots during Wisconsin’s August and November elections. Earlier this month, Evers also joined the governors of Illinois, California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Washington in writing a letter to the USPS leadership to oppose the Trump absentee voting order. “The Postal Service has a critical responsibility to ensure that election mail is handled with the urgency and reliability that voters, election officials, and the public rightly expect,” they wrote.

Postal Service respond to complaints of mail delays in Wisconsin, the agency defended its transition to an “optimized” delivery program and boasted of increased staff retention. In a letter to Baldwin that her office shared with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Michael J. Under the proposed legislation, the USPS Board of Governors would be prohibited from approving additional compensation for the postmaster general and deputy postmaster general during any fiscal year in which the Postal Service fails to achieve at least a 95% on-time delivery rate for all market-dominant mail products. He also pointed to the recent discovery of a large quantity of undelivered mail abandoned in a vacant lot in Missouri, saying the Postal Service has not provided an explanation for the incident.
